A. Joanne Berntheizel, 83, of Columbia, passed away on Sunday, December 14, 2014 surrounded by her loving family at the Masonic Village, Elizabethtown. She was the wife of the late Cleon N. Berntheizel III, who preceded her in death in 2007.
A lifelong Columbia resident, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Bessie Kuhns Barninger. Joanne graduated from Columbia High School in 1949 and retired after 30 years of service from the Donegal Mutual Insurance Company where she worked as a supervisor in the underwriting department. She was a lifelong member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Columbia, where she taught Sunday School for over twenty years, served on the church vestry and sang in the church choir.
She will be lovingly missed by her children, Cindy A. wife of Robert Nikolaus and Cleon G. Berntheizel, both of Columbia; grandchildren, Matthew and Jonathan Leddy; great grandson, Owen Leddy; sister, Gloria wife of Joseph Halter, Mountville; brothers, Richard Barninger, Maryland and Vernon Barninger, Erie, PA. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Agnes, Charles, Melvin, Nelson, Rebecca, Catherine, Beatrice and Arthur.
