OCTOBER 2013
October is a month of transitions. We move from the warmth of late September and early October to the coldness of November. We move from the green of the trees through the glorious colors of fall to the barrenness of the landscape as it settles in for winter. We move from the long days of summer to the long nights of winter. October is a time of change; but it is a necessary time of change – all in preparation for the new life and growth that will come in the spring.
October is a time to remind us that our lives need to undergo the same process of change. We need to die to old habits, old ways of doing things, of accepting sin in our life and in our world, etc. so that we can show new growth, new lives, new ways of living out the Gospel message.
October reflects the life of Christ. Christ moved from the triumph and beauty of the entrance into Jerusalem to the cold, lifeless atmosphere of the tomb. All seemed lost and gone – but Easter was yet to come.
October for us should be a time to move from the glories of the world to the glories of the Gospel. Let go! Let something die! Let new life seep into your very bones! Lie in the grave of October – spring is so very close!
Peace and Blessings!
