Altar Flowers are available for the weeks of May 18, 25; June 8, 15, 22, 29.  The Sanctuary Candle is available for the weeks of  June 1, 8, 15, 22, 29.

Sunday Adult Forum:  Join us for our Sunday Adult Forum in the Groome Room beginning at 9:05 a.m. and ending at 9:55 a.m.  Our topics for are:

Sunday, May 4 – Discovering Everyday Spirituality – Story.

Sunday, May 11 – Discovering Everyday Spirituality – Place.

Sunday, May 18 – Discovering Everyday Spirituality – Activity

Estate Planning and Elder Care Issues Seminar and Lunch:  On Sunday, May 18 there will be a luncheon at 1 p.m. in the Mary Elizabeth Bair Parish Center. Beginning at 1:30 p.m. there will be a seminar on Estate Planning, Elder Care Issues, and Planned Giving.  Everyone in the parish is invited to attend this free luncheon and seminar.  It is open to all in the community, so bring a friend or neighbor.

Mission and Ministry Plan:  One of the goals of our Mission and Ministry Plan is to increase the average Sunday attendance to 155 by the end of 2010.  That gives us three years.  While the Outreach Ministry Committee and the Vestry are working on ways to do this, the one way that has proven the most effective is a personal invitation by a current member to someone else.  A former member, an inactive family member, someone who is searching for a church, someone who has expressed dissatisfaction with their current church – all are people who would welcome a personal invitation from you to come and pray with us at Saint Paul’s.  The business cards that were given out in October make wonderful “gifts” to others and are great ways to break the ice.  We need everyone to commit to reaching out and bringing in at least two new active members.  We have been commissioned by Jesus Christ himself to do this.  Let’s just do it!

Worship Assistants:  Renewal and training for both current worship assistants and new assistants will take place on Saturday, May 10 as follows:  Prayer Leaders (9 – 9:30 a.m.); Acolytes (9:30 – 10:30 a.m.); Eucharistic Ministers and Visitors (10:30 – 11:30 a.m.); Ushers and Greeters (11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.); and Lectors (12:30 – 2 p.m.).  Both current and new worship assistants are expected to attend this training and time of prayer and reflection.

Marietta Day 2008:  Marietta Day will be held on Saturday, May 17 from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.  The event is held rain or shine.  Activities include community wide “attic and cellar” sales, craft, art and antique stands, fabulous food and entertainment.

Memorial Day Food Stand:  On Sunday, May 25 (12 noon – 4 p.m.) during the Columbia Memorial Day Parade, the parish will have a food stand in the parish yard to help raise money for the operating budget of the parish.  A sign-up sheet is posted in the Mary Elizabeth Bair Parish Center beginning today for donations of food and time to help with this fundraiser.  Please plan on coming to the parade and stopping by our stand for great food.

Memorial Day Eucharist:  On Monday, May 26 we will come together as a parish family to celebrate a Memorial Day Eucharist at 9:30 a.m. in the Holy Communion Chapel.  We will give thanks and praise to all those who have given their life in the service of their country.  During the Prayers of the People we will read the names aloud.  Please submit names to the parish office so the Prayer Leader will have them to include.  You may also add names aloud or in silence during the service.  We will also remember all those who are currently serving their country either here at home or abroad.

Bishop’s Annual Visitation:  On Sunday, June 1, 2008, Bishop Charlie McNutt will make his annual visit to the parish.  We have only one service that Sunday (9:30 a.m.) at which the Bishop will celebrate and preach.  He will also confirm Luke Runkle who has been prepared through Confirmation Class.  Following the service we will gather in the Mary Elizabeth Bair Parish Center for lunch.  This is a great occasion to invite family and friends to experience our prayer and worship together as a parish family in union with the bishop.

Vestry Member (FYI):  There will be no Vestry Meeting on Sunday, May 11, 2008.

Thank You:  We want to thank George Livingston for the new built-in desk and shelves for the food bank.

Money will be given directly to the Columbia Food Bank (a ministry of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church) and the Columbia Clothing Bank (a ministry of the Columbia Presbyterian Church). The money is used to buy needed food for the food bank and socks and underwear for the clothing bank. We will gather at 9 a.m. in Rotary Park on the Columbia side of the Route 462 Bridge and walk across the bridge and back. Information, sign-up sheets and pledge sheets are available on the table in the back of the church. Put the date on your calendar and pray for good weather, line up some sponsors, and come out and walk the bridge for hunger. We will have a shorter “senior walk (for Father Patrick) and a “buggy walk” (for the younger set). Come help God’s least, last, and lost.

Thank You! – Thank You! – Thank You! A tremendous Thank You to Janet Herman and almost two dozen volunteers who helped set up, staff, and clean-up the semi-annual ECW Rummage Sale. A lot of hard work by many people helped the ECW (Episcopal Church Women) raise $440.26 for their outreach ministry.

Thanks also to Joanne Berntheizel and her crew of volunteers who prepared, staffed, and cleaned up from the Soup and Sandwich and Rummage Sale Food Stand. We especially want to thank Buzz Bair, Danielle Peters, and Annabelle Vecero who made the soups. This effort by the Hospitality and Inreach Committee made $387.00 for the operating budget of the parish.

Finally, thanks to Dan Sahd and Sahd Salvage for their efforts to help the food bank, and outreach ministry of St. Paul’s. Information regarding the proceeds from the bake table and the Rita’s Italian Ice stand at the Sahd Salvage Earth Day celebrations will be included in a subsequent bulletin. This money will help us continue to feed the hungry.

Our five loaves of bread and two fish are constantly multiplied by the action of God when we work together. Last Saturday (April 19), lots of people worked “together to build the Kingdom of God
